Taking Care Of a Puppy - What New Dog Owners Should Know
By: Jeremy C.W
It is that special day when you bring home your new furry friend for the pet shop.
As a new puppy owner, there are several things you need to know about caring for your new baby dog. Like babies, your puppy dog needs the same loving care and attention.
Raising your puppy to be a positive addition to the household may require you to be a little more patient as these cute, playful pooches can be all over the place especially during the first couple of months.
As mentioned, puppies are similar to human babies and require the same loving care and attention. It is common for puppies to be take tumbles down the stairs or to chase moving objects, and for this reason, you need to be a little more observant at times.
Your new puppy needs to be kept warm at night and a good choice would be an electric blanket in his sleeping box. It is ok to buy a bigger blanket as they grow up very fast.
Good dog breeders would usually allow all new born puppies to stay with their mothers for about 8 weeks. If you have gotten a puppy which is less that 8 week old, make sure you only bottle feed them with the right milk mixture from the pet store. Never feed them cow’s milk during the first 12 weeks.
Always give more attention to your new puppy as the more attention it receives, the more sociable it will become and the more it will respond to your voice and commands.
Keep your puppy clean as all time because unlike adult dog, their natural immunities are not developed fully. They are more prone to skin allergies and should be given a light bath with a suitable PH balanced shampoo every other day.
Before you realize it, your cute little fur balls have now grown into healthy active kid puppies. Then puppy potty training becomes a very important elements of the raising cycle, and it must be done in an appropriate and orderly fashion. It is a good idea to read up a puppy potty training guide to gain more knowledge in this area.
Although taking care of a puppy requires a bit more work, the rewards are always paid off in unconditional love, respect and happiness.
